A two-time returning Gatorade State Player of the Year, the 5-foot-7 senior guard led the Wildcats to a 35-0 record and the Class 5A state championship this past season. Ursin averaged 27.6 points, 14.2 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 5.6 steals and 4.1 blocks per game. She knocked down 69.5 percent of her shots, including 52.1 percent from 3-point land. Ursin recorded seven triple-doubles and one quadruple-double-coming within one blocked shot of a quintuple-double. Also the state's 2015-16 Miss Basketball winner, she concluded her prep basketball career with 2,901 points.
Ursin has maintained an A average in the classroom. She has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball on scholarship at Baylor University beginning this fall.
A member of the Rho Kappa History Honor Society, Ursin is a member of the Destrehan High student council. She has volunteered locally as a peer tutor and sings in her church's youth choir. "Cara Ursin is a dominating force on the court," said Ashley Adams, head coach of Thibodaux High. "She is one of the smartest point guards I've seen play. She can shoot, she can penetrate, she can pass, she can defend. She can play every position on the court."
