The 5-foot-5 junior raced to the Class 4A individual state championship this past season with a time of 17:40.36. The state's returning Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Hertenstein also captured the Region 2 championships, the District 7 championships and the flrunners.com Invitational. She finished seventh at the Foot Locker South Regional championships and was 20th at the national Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.
Hertenstein has maintained a 3.95 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
A student ambassador in her school, Hertentstein has volunteered locally on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. "Even after having an undefeated 2016 season (in Florida) and winning a total of three state titles, Bailey is still one of the most humble athletes I have come across," said Riverview coach Mary Lichtenberger. "Her hard work and dedication, on and off the field, are inspiring."
