The 5-foot-9 junior won the Class 2A state meet this past season with a time of 17:57.7, breaking the tape 17.6 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor and leading the Golden Hawks to a third-place finish as a team. The Des Moines Register Elite Runner of the Year, Hostetler was undefeated this season against in-state competition. She capped her 2016 campaign at the Foot Locker Midwest Regional championships, placing 19th in 18:19.7.
Hostetler has maintained a 3.93 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
Hostetler works every day on her family's dairy farm. A violinist and pianist, she has volunteered locally with the Special Olympics and as a youth track and field coach. "Anna is special," said Dan Sauser, head coach of Monticello High. "She now runs with a degree of confidence that she did not have as a young runner. She was the best female cross country runner in the state this fall."
