The 6-foot-1, 155-pound junior raced to the Class 5A individual state championship this past season with a time of 15:20, leading the Comets to the state title as a team. Monroe took third at the Nike Cross Nationals Northwest Regional championships in 15:31.7 and finished 35th nationally at the NXN Final. He won the Max King Invitational and the State of Jefferson Invitational.
Monroe has maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom. He will begin his senior year of high school this fall.
A devoted member of his church community, Monroe has served as a peer tutor and has volunteered locally on behalf of youth running programs. "Andy's talent and work ethic are second to none," said Crater coach Justin Loftus. "He loves the competition, feeds off training and studies to be the best runner in the country. The positive attitude that he brings to every workout and race creates a culture of success."
