The 5-foot junior won the Class A state meet this past season, breaking the tape in an all-class best time of 17:59.62—29 seconds ahead of her next-closest competitor—and leading the Yellow Jackets to the state team championship. Sauro was the state’s top runner at the Foot Locker South Region championships, where she finished 12th. She won six races in 2023, took second in two others and was the state’s fastest prep girl in every meet she entered.
Sauro has maintained a 4.14 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.
An active member of the Cross Roads United Methodist Church youth group, Sauro has volunteered locally writing personal notes throughout the year to the elderly and sick in her community.
