Athletic Excellence

The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 6-foot senior forward averaged 17.9 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 1.7 assists and 0.5 blocks per game this past season, leading the Patriots (18-10) to the Class 5A Southern Regional semifinals. The two-time Class 5A Southern Regional Player of the Year and Las Vegas Super 7 Selection, Matavao was named the MVP of the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational. She’s also a three-sport athlete, excelling in both track and field and volleyball.

Academic Achievement

Matavao has maintained a weighted 3.92 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball on scholarship at Brigham Young University this fall.

Exemplary Character

A member of her church choir, Matavao has volunteered locally as an ambassador for the Victory Club, a drug-free advocacy program, and she has donated her time as secretary of the school’s Polynesian Club and Black Student Union. She has also served on her school’s student council.
