The 5-foot-6 freshman distance runner broke the tape in the mile-run at the prestigious adidas Boost Boston Games earlier this month with a winning time of 4:41.80, which ranked as the nation's No. 1 performance among prep competitors in 2017 at the time of her selection. The state's 2016-17 Gatorade Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year, Halladay also won two individual state titles and shared in a third this spring, leading the Mavericks to the Class 5A championship as a team. She captured the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:52.51, the 3200-meter run in 10:30.80 and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay quartet in 3:58.33.
Halladay has maintained a 3.85 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her sophomore year of high school this fall.
An accomplished violinist, Halladay has volunteered locally on behalf of her church and an assisted living facility. "Lexy Halladay is representing Idaho very well and is a great competitor," said Aaron Olswanger, head coach at Boise High. "I cannot think of anyone in the state I'd even recommend over her for this award."
