The 5-foot-5, 135-pound senior midfielder scored 15 goals and passed for 17 assists this past season, leading the Raiders (14-4-3) to the Division I state quarterfinals. The 2018 Interscholastic League of Honolulu Offensive Player of the Year, Liu is a two-time First Team All-State selection. He concluded his prep soccer career with 29 goals and 39 assists.
Liu has maintained a weighted 3.72 GPA in the classroom. He has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer on scholarship at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles this fall.
Liu has volunteered locally as the publicity event planner of the Iolani Fair and as a Spanish tutor and youth soccer coach. “Alex is not the biggest player on the field but he utilizes his quickness, technical ability and vision to impact the game,” said Chris Lee, head coach of Iolani School. “He has been the motor that runs the engine. His tireless work rate and individual ability cause problems for opposing defenses.”
