Athletic Excellence


The state’s returning Gatorade Player of the Year, the 5-foot-9 junior outside hitter recorded 401 kills and 248 digs this past season, leading the Eagles (17-4) to the Division I state semifinals. Somera also notched 45 service aces and 24 blocks while posting a kill percentage of .471 and a hitting percentage of .335. A two-time Division I Player of the Year, Somera is also a two-time state tournament MVP. She concluded her junior year with 913 kills in her prep volleyball career.

Academic Achievement


Somera has maintained a weighted 4.14 GPA in the classroom. She will begin her senior year of high school this fall.

Exemplary Character


A member of her school’s debate club and environmental club, Somera has volunteered locally as part of a fundraising campaign to benefit cancer research and as a math tutor. “Maile was once again the most dominant force in the Interscholastic League,” said Alex Butler, head coach of East Providence High. “She dictates and controls the match from all phases of the game.”
