“Mount Carmel had a great team this year and it’s because of Ellie. She is by far the most powerful, deceiving and aggressive hitter in the state. She has so much ball control and she knows how to use it.”

Athletic Excellence

The state’s returning Gatorade State Player of the Year, the 6-foot-2 junior middle blocker led the Cubs to a 40-7 record and a third-straight Division I state championship this past season. Holzman amassed 744 kills, 440 digs, 128 blocks and 40 service aces while posting a kill percentage of .518 and a hitting percentage of .460. A MaxPreps First Team All-American selection, Holzman was MaxPreps’ Sophomore of the Year in 2016. She concluded her junior year with career totals of 1,855 kills, 1,076 digs and 648 blocks.

Academic Achievement

Holzman has maintained a weighted 4.67 GPA in the classroom. She has made a verbal commitment to play volleyball on scholarship at the University of Illinois beginning in the fall of 2019.

Exemplary Character

A member of the Latin National Honor Society and MCA’s Book Club, Holzman has volunteered locally with an anti-drug and violence-prevention program and as a youth volleyball and basketball coach. “Mount Carmel had a great team this year and it’s because of Ellie,” said Sivi Miller, head coach of St. Joseph’s Academy. “She is by far the most powerful, deceiving and aggressive hitter in the state. She has so much ball control and she knows how to use it.”
